One automotive company bought 68 Motoman welding robots to add to their 360 robots already in use. They chose Motoman because of their extensive servicing plans and software systems. Most of them were used for arc welding, but they also utilized some for spot welding applications. They have used Motoman robots for nearly two decades because Motoman is a leader in robotic welding technology and remains so to this day.
Another company bought 21 Motoman robots to weld the inter-rear exhausts for a Land Rover vehicle using two different stainless steel wires. Most of the robots were also used for arc welding, but the company used two for assembly operations. The twin-wire feed system of the UP20 Motoman welding robot allowed for the new technique for welding of thicker materials. This company used interlinked cells with rotary positioners to save floor space and money. Two cells with four robots weld twin-skinned, fabricated manifolds while another workcell with two robots welds the downpipes. The last welding cell contains nine robots that produce the section from the end of the downpipes to the tailpipes (the inter-rears). Two more Motoman robots assemble the internals for the silencers.
