KUKA Robotics has introduced a new line of industrial robots with varying payload capacities and reach capabilities. The new QUANTEC series gives users a whole new spectrum of automated solutions to material handling, palletizing, spot welding, and a number of other industrial applications. The QUANTEC series is broken up into several sub-series.
QUANTEC pro – This robot series features industrial robot arms with maximum payload capacities ranging from 90 kilograms to 120 kilograms and horizontal reaches from 2,500 millimeters to 2,700 millimeters.
QUANTEC extra – Robot arms in this series are capable of handling payloads from 90 kilograms to 180 kilograms and feature extended horizontal reaches of 2,500 millimeters to 3,100 millimeters.
QUANTEC prime – The prime series robot arms can manipulate payloads from 150 kilograms to 240 kilograms. These robot arms have a large work envelope, as well, reaching from 2,500 millimeters to 3,100 millimeters.
QUANTEC ultra – Robot arms in the ultra series feature the highest payload capacities of all QUANTEC robots, ranging from 210 kilograms to 300 kilograms. Robot arms in this series maintain the same large work envelope as the extra and prime series with horizontal reaches from 2,500 millimeters to 3,100 millimeters.
Aren’t there other KUKA robots that have similar specifications that can handle the same applications? Well, yes there are. What you won’t find with those robot arms, though, is a number of other improvements.
Improvements in QUANTEC Series Robot Arms
Robot arms in the QUANTEC series may have the same work envelope as other KUKA robots, but QUANTEC robots possess 25% less robot volume for the same work envelope. A more compact design includes slimmer wrists, a 30% reduction in energy consumption, and a 12% reduction in overall weight.
QUANTEC robots also fewer parts and many of the parts are interchangeable among all QUANTEC series robots. This means more versatility and shorter lead times when ordering replacement parts.
Accuracy and precision has also been improved in all QUANTEC series robot arms. QUANTEC robots feature repeatabilities of +/-0.06 millimeters, a 50% improvement of Series 2000 robots’ repeatabilities of +/-0.12 millimeters. Path accuracy has also been improved 20% over Series 2000 robot arms.
