National Robotics Innovation Competition

ABB teamed up with The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) to create the National Robotics Innovation Competition for Australia in 2007.  The objective of the competition is to encourage interaction between students and prospective employers in the automotive and industrial sects nationally.

Students partnered with employers to design and develop an application of a robot in a work cell or a process in an industrial application.  Their proposal was presented to a Board of Directors comprised of experts in the field.  The committee evaluated the proposals based on savings generated, innovation, safety, likelihood of success, and presentation quality.

The competition winner, Jarred Spriggs from Deakin University, had the opportunity to watch his idea simulated in Robot Studio.  Runners-up received prizes such as ABB Simulation software, ABB work experience, and robotics programming training courses.

The Competition expanded into other countries and ran through 2009.
