It can officially be said that the robotic division is booming. People are calling it a “fourth industrial revolution” where robots are effortlessly being incorporated into factories and bringing incredible precision, productivity, and flexibility. Factories are also seeing a boom in collaborative robots that are able to seamlessly work hand-in-hand with human workers to further increase flexibility and efficiency.
Robots are now an integral and unstoppable part to the success of the world's economy. So, it is not surprising that these highly automated economies are rapidly adopting the industrial robot focus. Globally, it is estimated that 1.3 million industrial robots will arriving in factories by 2018. The international market value for robotic systems estimated around 32 billion US dollars and the automotive division itself increased their robots by 43% in one year, from 2013-2014.
Breaking it down even further, the average global robotic density is 66 robot units per 10,000 employees. Reflected in Figure 1 are the 21 countries that are above this average. Leading industrial robotic automation is South Korea at 478 units per 10,000 employees, whereas the United Stations currently sits at seventh place with 164 units.
Proving that it is never too late to begin automating among this quickly advancing world, let's take a closer look at China. The country sits around 36 units per 10,000 employees, yet they are quickly advancing as the world’s largest sales and growth market for industrial robots. China sold a record-breaking 57,100 units in 2014 and is expected to account for more than one-third of the industrial robots installed worldwide.
Are you worried about this dramatic rise in robotics affecting employment? Don’t fright. Reports have actually shown that the increase in robotics is creating more jobs. Jeff Burnstein, president of the RIA, states, “Today there are more opportunities than ever in the robotics industry.” More on this topic here.
All of these statistics are important for indicating the growth of automation within international markets and reflecting where our industrial world is headed.
