Training is probably one of the most important issues for workers when it comes to integrating robotics into a facility. While training is one way to better the skills of many workers during the integration, it is also necessary to make sure that the integrity and safety of the shop remains intact during the integration process.

While there used to be a strong work force for the manufacturing industry, in recent decades, workers have moved to service or office job, which shifts people away from being qualified for manufacturing jobs. The robotics industry has been key in rejuvenating the manufacturing workforce, by offering to train the workers in robotics – which gives them more marketable skills than they would ever gain through just a welding or handling job. This not only boosts morale, but also improves the lives of workers by allowing them to have skills that can improve their rate of pay.

Another reason robot training is so important in a facility is the safety aspect. Robots can be a worker’s best friend, or their worst enemy, especially if that worker has no safety training with that particular robot. Robots have the ability to move with enough speed and force to kill a person. When workers receive safety training about robots, they should learn all of the safety components around the robot, like light curtains, mats and fencing. They should also be alerted to the walkways which have been specifically marked to keep workers away from robots during operation. By providing this training, workers are able to avoid injuries, which could lower morale and cause slowdowns, costing manufacturers money, in the long run.
