Robotic Boom Will Bring 1.3 Million Robots by 2018

It can offi­cial­ly be said that the robot­ic divi­sion is boom­ing. Peo­ple are call­ing it a ​“fourth indus­tri­al rev­o­lu­tion” where robots are effort­less­ly being incor­po­rat­ed into fac­to­ries and bring­ing incred­i­ble pre­ci­sion, pro­duc­tiv­i­ty, and flex­i­bil­i­ty. Fac­to­ries are also see­ing a boom in col­lab­o­ra­tive robots that are able to seam­less­ly work hand-in-hand with human work­ers to fur­ther increase flex­i­bil­i­ty and efficiency. 

Robots are now an inte­gral and unstop­pable part to the suc­cess of the world’s econ­o­my. So, it is not sur­pris­ing that these high­ly auto­mat­ed economies are rapid­ly adopt­ing the indus­tri­al robot focus. Glob­al­ly, it is esti­mat­ed that 1.3 mil­lion indus­tri­al robots will arriv­ing in fac­to­ries by 2018. The inter­na­tion­al mar­ket val­ue for robot­ic sys­tems esti­mat­ed around 32 bil­lion US dol­lars and the auto­mo­tive divi­sion itself increased their robots by 43% in one year, from 2013 – 2014. 

Break­ing it down even fur­ther, the aver­age glob­al robot­ic den­si­ty is 66 robot units per 10,000 employ­ees. Reflect­ed in Fig­ure 1 are the 21 coun­tries that are above this aver­age. Lead­ing indus­tri­al robot­ic automa­tion is South Korea at 478 units per 10,000 employ­ees, where­as the Unit­ed Sta­tions cur­rent­ly sits at sev­enth place with 164 units.

Prov­ing that it is nev­er too late to begin automat­ing among this quick­ly advanc­ing world, let’s take a clos­er look at Chi­na. The coun­try sits around 36 units per 10,000 employ­ees, yet they are quick­ly advanc­ing as the world’s largest sales and growth mar­ket for indus­tri­al robots. Chi­na sold a record-break­ing 57,100 units in 2014 and is expect­ed to account for more than one-third of the indus­tri­al robots installed worldwide.
