ABB’s new YuMi col­lab­o­ra­tive robot is the begin­ning of a new era in robot­ics. The name itself, YuMi, stands for You and Me. YuMi is the first col­lab­o­ra­tive dual arm robot, designed to work side by side and inte­grat­ed with humans. This dual arm ABB robot is ide­al for small parts assem­bly, and is extreme­ly safe and very accu­rate. With the sim­ple human touch, the robot will stop what is is doing with­in mil­lisec­onds. No fenc­ing, no light cur­tains, no safe­ty sys­tems nec­es­sary. That is because all of YuMi’s safe­ty devices are built into the robot. This robot is the future of robot­ics and comes with the advanced ABB IRC5 con­troller, True­Move and Quick­Move tech­nol­o­gy, I/O inter­faces include Eth­er­net IP, Profibus, USB ports, DeviceNet, com­mu­ni­ca­tion port, emer­gency stop and air-to-hands. YuMi can work with a vari­ety of HMI devices, includes tablets and smart­phones. Its ser­vo grip­pers, or ​“hands”, have the option of built in cam­era, the padding on the arm makes it soft to touch, and its 100 – 240 volt pow­er sup­ply plugs into any sock­et worldwide.
