First in the World – ABB Begins Manufacturing in U.S.
A leader in the robotics industry, ABB produces a wide range of power and automation technologies. They are proud to be the first global company to commit to manufacturing robots in the United States. ABB is fully committed to become invested in the North American market and will open a plant in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

ABB Robotics is one of the leaders in the robotics industry. Based in Sweden, ABB is an international company that produces power and automation technologies. They are now the first global company to commit to manufacturing robots in the United States. While many robotics companies have branches in the U.S., their robots are manufactured elsewhere.
According to a press release from ABB, the company announced on May 20, 2015 that it is fully committed and invested in its North American market by opening a robotics plant at their existing Auburn Hills, Michigan location. ABB stated that production would commence immediately. This is ABB’s third robotics manufacturing plant, along with facilities in Shanghai, China and Västerås, Sweden.
The move to manufacture in the U.S. makes sense because the United States is ABB’s largest market, with $7.5 billion in sales. ABB has invested over $10 billion in their North American footprint since 2010 and has increased employment by almost 15,000. This grand opening is another step in the company’s global growth plan. The majority of controllers, robots, and other products produced at the Auburn Hills facility will be distributed to customers in North America. ABB stated that by localizing manufacturing, they are streamlining the delivery process, which will significantly reduce robot lead times for customers.
