PPP Robots – Picking, Packing, and Palletizing
Jul 7, 2015
Picking, packing, and palletizing applications have all gained huge improvements on the production line in their speeds and quality through the integration of industrial robots. Companies are quickly learning that investing in a picking, packing, or palletizing system will enable more accurate and efficient performance on their production line.
When a product is made in a factory, it has to go through several different processes before it is shipped out on a truck to the consumer. First, it has to be picked, then it has to be packed into a box, and then those boxes have to be palletized. All of these applications can be automated with robots, but usually they have to be automated by different robots at different parts of the line. However, some engineers are developing robots called Pick/Pack/Pal (PPP) robots, which are able to perform all three functions.
Many companies invest in picking, packing, or palletizing robots because they are able to perform these functions more accurately and efficiently than previously used manual operations. However, if companies are able to invest in a robot that can perform two, or even all three, of these functions, then they would be able to cut down on their equipment costs, saving upwards of $50,000 to $100,000 by not having to buy another one or two robots, while also making the process more streamline and efficient.
Picking up individual parts, packing them into boxes, and palletizing them onto skids is not an easy operation, even for the smartest robots. This type of complex integration requires an integrator who is capable of integrating complex production lines that do not just involve robotics, but vision systems, PLCs, hard automation, grippers, end-of-arm tooling, conveyors, and more to create a fully automated work cell that would be capable of running at high speeds without a lot of issues along the way.
If you are looking for a great integrator that is able to handle complex integration tasks, you should give Robots.com a call.
