RobotWorx defines prototype tooling as simplistic part fixturing using manual clamping and rigid steel framing. Prototype tooling is meant to demonstrate one method of securing the part.
Prototype tooling provides a concept of what the production tooling should be. It is not meant to be production tooling. After the prototype tooling is tested, final tooling can be quoted and provided.
Prototype tooling does not include: tooling design drawings, part presence sensors, or pneumatic clamping and it is not subject to customer's design or specifications.
